With Mariusz Stepinski scoring in the 71st minute, the Scyzory denied the Wojskowi a third victory of the campaign. Legia remain unbeaten and provisionally top the table with seven points. Łukasz Zjawiński opened the scoring for the visitors in the 28th minute with a great goal.
Korona can breathe a sigh of relief after losing to Jagiellonia Białystok on the opening matchday, while their game against Górnik Zabrze was postponed due to the latter’s commitments in the UEFA Europa League qualifying round.
Legia strike first and take control
The match began with both teams looking to take control of possession, but neither side managed to create much danger early on.
Korona’s first big chance came in the 13th minute, when Kamil Jakubczyk unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the box, forcing Legia goalkeeper Otto Hindrich into an excellent one-handed save.
The visitors’ persistence paid off in the 28th minute, when Kamil Piątkowski delivered a precise cross from the right and Dariusz Zjawiński rose to head home for 0-1 with an excellent finish from the heart of the penalty area.
The goal allowed Legia to take greater control of the match and limit the space available for Korona’s attacks.
Just before half-time, in the 43rd minute, Morgan Fassbender came close to an equaliser with a powerful strike that crashed against the crossbar. The incident was reviewed by VAR over a possible handball by Robert Deziel Jr., but no penalty was awarded.
Korona fight back to salvage a point
Korona Kielce returned from the break with greater determination and found the equaliser in the 71st minute, when Mariusz Stępiński rose highest at the far post following a corner from the right and headed the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-1. The Polish striker celebrated his first goal of the season in the Polish top flight.
The goal gave the home side confidence, and they came close to completing the comeback in the 58th minute, when Wiktor Długosz unleashed a powerful effort from outside the box that narrowly missed the post.
Legia also pushed for a winner in the closing stages. In the final minutes, Rafał Augustyniak made a crucial intervention to prevent Fassbender from securing victory for Marek Papszun’s side.
In the end, Korona Kielce and Legia Warszawa finished 1-1, with the hosts producing a timely comeback while the visitors were unable to maintain their perfect winning record.
