Will Lionel Messi play in the Copa Libertadores? Inter Miami fuels the dream
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas admits talks with CONMEBOL about the possibility
Lionel Messi has transformed Inter Miami since his arrival, and now the club is daring to dream about a potential appearance in the Copa Libertadores. One of the MLS side’s owners has spoken openly about the idea.
Is Inter Miami interested in playing the Copa Libertadores?
Jorge Mas, one of Inter Miami’s owners alongside David Beckham, admitted that the club would like to take part in the Copa Libertadores and has already held conversations with CONMEBOL officials.
“It’s a dream. Obviously, I’ve had conversations with CONMEBOL about participating in the Copa Libertadores. There is precedent with Mexican clubs,” Mas said in an interview with Olé.

CONMEBOL previously allowed Mexican clubs in the Libertadores
Despite Mexico and the United States belonging to CONCACAF, Mexican teams competed in the Copa Libertadores throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
“It’s a dream. Obviously, I’ve had conversations with CONMEBOL about participating in the Copa Libertadores. There is precedent with Mexican clubs,” Mas reiterated.
Liga MX sides even reached two finals: Cruz Azul lost to Boca Juniors, while Chivas fell to Internacional de Porto Alegre.
Messi scores on his return to Inter Miami
After spending his vacation in his hometown of Rosario, Lionel Messi has rejoined Inter Miami’s preseason preparations.
During a training session at Fort Lauderdale, near Chase Stadium, the Argentine star scored two spectacular goals, further raising excitement around the team.
