Vancouver Whitecaps v FC Dallas: Sorensen predicts fierce decision-day clash
The Vancouver Whitecaps and FC Dallas both have something to play for heading into the final round of MLS regular-season matches on Sunday.
Jesper Sorensen is confident neither side will be "settling for much" as his table-topping Vancouver Whitecaps entertain FC Dallas on decision day in the Western Conference.
Vancouver are on course to be crowned the top side in the West, and will be eager to finish the regular season strongly.
The Whitecaps are unbeaten in their last 11 outings across all competitions, having beaten Orlando City thanks to a last-gasp Thomas Muller winner in their previous MLS showing.
Vancouver have scored 29 goals in their last eight matches in all competitions, having scored the third-most goals out of all 30 MLS sides.
"It should be a fun game to watch; there is a lot at stake," said Sorensen.
"Dallas have to win the game, we want to win the game.
"It should be fun, not settling for much, and I think both teams will both go for it.
"We have to go full steam ahead when we play. We will have an eye on progressing and getting as far as possible in the playoffs."
Looking to snatch the last playoff spot, Dallas must secure victory on the final day of MLS regular-season games and hope that the Portland Timbers slip up against second-place San Diego FC.
Dallas, who were reduced to 10 men in the 16th minute, fell to a 2-1 defeat to LA Galaxy last time out, having gone the previous eight MLS games unbeaten (four wins and four draws).
Sunday's visitors have found the back of the net in each of their last 12 games, scoring 23 goals during that period.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Vancouver Whitecaps – Thomas Muller
Muller has registered a goal or assist in all five of his MLS starts so far, totalling six goals and three assists in those matches.
The last player to record a goal contribution in each of his first six MLS starts was Chicago Fire's Brandt Bronico back in 2018.
FC Dallas – Anderson Julio
Anderson Julio found the net in the 52nd minute on Saturday, continuing his remarkable trend — all six of his goals this season have been scored after half-time.
Among the 74 players with more than five regular-season goals in 2025, Julio is, uniquely, the only one whose entire tally has come in the second half.
MATCH PREDICTION: VANCOUVER WIN
Vancouver earned a 1–0 victory over Dallas in Texas earlier in the season, and are now aiming to beat them twice in a single season for just the second time in series history.
The Whitecaps are currently unbeaten in eight straight league matches (five wins, three draws), scoring 22 goals during that stretch — the most they have ever recorded over an eight-game span in MLS play.
Dallas can secure a playoff berth with a win over Vancouver, but the team have struggled on the road this term, going six away games without a victory (four draws, two losses) since last winning in Kansas City in June.
Their most recent win in Canada came in September 2018 against Vancouver, registering four draws and three losses there since.
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY:
Vancouver – 60.3%
Draw – 20.8%
Dallas – 18.9%
