St. Louis City 3-3 FC Dallas: Farrington scores 97th-minute equaliser in six-goal thriller
St. Louis City were set to climb further up the Western Conference standings on Sunday, but FC Dallas snatched a draw with a late comeback.
St. Louis were cruising at Energizer Park as Simon Becher and Daniel Edelman scored either side of Shaq Moore's strike for Dallas in the first half, while Carlo Holse put the hosts 3-1 ahead after the break, though late goals from Sebastien Ibeagha and Farrington saw the spoils shared.
Becher's opener came in the third minute as he fired a low shot from the edge of the box past a helpless Jonathan Sirois, but Moore levelled 15 minutes later, curling into the top-right corner after forcing his way into the box.
St. Louis regained the lead on the stroke of half-time; Becher's driving effort forced a save from Sirois, but the goalkeeper's parry landed kindly for Edelman to turn home on the rebound.
Holse scored his first goal for St. Louis shortly after the hour mark, tapping in from close range after being found by Conrad Wallem's low cross, though Ibeagha set up a nervy finish after heading in from Joaquin Valiente's corner.
A minimum of seven minutes of stoppage time was added on, and Farrington, who saw a header land safely into the arms of Roman Burki minutes earlier, netted a last-gasp leveller with a first-time finish after Petar Musa's clever reverse pass.
Dallas end road trip with important point
This marked the end of Dallas' nine-game road trip in MLS, during which they won four matches (D3 L2), and it was an important draw at the end of it all as they stay above St. Louis in the Western Conference.
Both teams are level on 34 points, with Dallas in fifth and St. Louis in sixth, though Dallas could use their equaliser as a boost ahead of their home match against bottom side Sporting Kansas City next.
St. Louis missed the chance to go level on points with third-place Los Angeles FC, and with a 3-1 lead, they will be disappointed not to walk away with the victory.
Yoann Damet's side also won the expected goals (xG) battle 1.75 to 0.79, though St. Louis still continue their unbeaten run, which has reached 13 games across all competitions (12 in MLS).
