Nashville SC v Los Angeles FC: Schwake insists preparation to face Son will remain the same
Nashville SC lead the Eastern Conference after 12 games, but face a tough test next against a Los Angeles FC side in need of a win.
Nashville SC goalkeeper Brian Schwake insisted he will not prepare any differently to face Los Angeles FC forwards Son Heung-min and Denis Bouanga this weekend.
Nashville host LAFC at GEODIS Park, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference ahead of the World Cup break.
BJ Callaghan's side defeated the New England Revolution 3-0 during the week to stay above Inter Miami in the table, while they face New York City FC after LAFC and before the break.
Nashville have conceded just eight goals in 12 MLS games this season, the joint-fewest of any side in the league (Seattle Sounders – eight goals conceded in 11 games).
When asked if he would prepare differently to face the likes of Son and Bouanaga, Schwake responded: "No, I don't think so. I think every team has dangerous guys.
"Obviously, every player is different, but the analysis and stuff that all the guys do, and the coaches give us on each player is kind of similar.
"We know strengths and weaknesses and what maybe we can try to do. You can't defend everyone perfectly all the time, but we think, 'what can we do to make our lives as easy as possible?'
"I think that's going to be the same as it was the week before and the week before that."
LAFC have lost three straight matches in all competitions for the first time since March last season after a 2-1 loss to St. Louis City on Wednesday.
Despite their poor form, head coach Marc Dos Santos is confident their results will turn around sooner rather than later.
"Sometimes there are moments that are just difficult for a team and don’t go your way," said Dos Santos.
"Right now we’re in a moment like that. I told them in the locker room, I know everybody is disappointed, but how you went about the game, how you answered in the game, how you pushed the game, how you looked for the goal all the time, there are a lot of things to build on."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Nashville SC – Brian Acosta
After scoring two goals in his first 125 career regular-season MLS appearances, Bryan Acosta scored twice in Nashville SC’s win over New England on Wednesday.
Acosta’s brace was the sixth multi-goal performance by a Nashville player this season, tied with the San Jose Earthquakes for most in MLS in 2026.
Los Angeles FC – David Martinez
David Martinez scored LAFC’s lone goal two minutes and 28 seconds after being subbed in on Wednesday, the fifth-fastest a player has scored after coming on this season.
It is the fastest an LAFC sub has scored after entering since Eduard Atuesta scored 28 seconds after coming on in October 2024.
MATCH PREDICTION – NASHVILLE SC WIN
Nashville have collected 27 points through their first 12 matches of the season, their second most in any 12-match span in club history (28 points in April-July 2025).
The only Eastern Conference team with more points through their first 12 matches of a season was the Miami Fusion (31) in 2001.
LAFC have lost their last three games. They have lost four straight matches in all competitions just once in club history, losing four straight regular-season games in August 2021.
Nashville SC and Los Angeles FC last met in March 2024 when LAFC produced a 5-0 home victory.
That five-goal performance is tied for the most goals ever conceded by Nashville in a competitive match, also allowing five goals to Inter Miami in the club’s regular-season finale in 2025.
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY
Nashville SC – 44.1%
Draw – 26.8%
Los Angeles FC – 29.1%
