Messi Invests Millions in Cornellà Project
The Argentine star continues building his off-field legacy with a strategic investment in a talent-producing club.
Lionel Messi is continuing to expand his influence beyond the pitch with a new move into football ownership. The World Cup winner has reportedly acquired UE Cornellà, a Catalan club currently competing in Spain’s fifth tier, the Tercera RFEF.
According to Spanish outlet La Razón, the deal is estimated to be worth around €2 million (approximately $2.3 million). While the exact figure has not been officially disclosed, sources close to the negotiations suggest this amount aligns with previous offers for the club.
This move adds to Messi’s growing portfolio in football investments, following ventures in Argentina and Uruguay. His vision for Cornellà appears focused on youth development and long-term sustainability, reinforcing the club’s historical strength in nurturing talent.
Over the years, UE Cornellà has developed notable players such as Jordi Alba, David Raya, Javi Puado, and Keita Baldé. Interestingly, the club’s stadium is located just meters away from that of RCD Espanyol, the fierce city rival of FC Barcelona—the club where Messi became a global icon.
With this acquisition, Messi is not just investing money, but also shaping a long-term football vision centered on youth, growth, and sustainability.
