Mascherano Says Messi Will Always Play If He's Fit
The Inter Miami coach assured that Lionel Messi will be in the starting lineup whenever he’s physically ready, thanks to his ability to manage himself on the pitch.
Messi Will Always Be a Priority for Mascherano
Ahead of the Inter Miami vs New England Revolution clash in MLS, Argentine coach Javier Mascherano made it clear that Lionel Messi will always be a key part of his plans when healthy.
“If Leo is doing well, my idea is to always play him,” the coach stated at the press conference. “If there’s anyone who knows how to manage themselves on the field, it’s him,” he added confidently.
Mascherano explained that while the team has stepped up in Messi’s absence, his presence remains irreplaceable. “This year we’ve played several games without Leo, and the team did well to make sure his absence wasn’t too noticeable,” he said.
“Messi Is Happy in Miami”
Mascherano also spoke about Messi’s emotional state, highlighting that the Argentine star has found peace and joy in his current surroundings. “I see him very happy. I think he found a place where he can be calm and enjoy things he perhaps didn’t have at other clubs,” he shared.
Regarding Wednesday’s game, the coach admitted that playing on artificial turf at Gillette Stadium isn’t ideal, but he downplayed injury concerns: “It’s not ideal, but it doesn’t worry us in terms of injuries. Those who play are fully fit.”
Tight Schedule and Limited Rotations
With multiple games in a short span, Inter Miami faces a demanding schedule. Still, Mascherano made it clear he won’t be making excessive changes. “We’re not just thinking about tomorrow’s game. We have three more in ten days, so we’ll manage minutes carefully, but my idea is not to rotate too much,” he explained.
Lastly, he declined to comment on the reported interest in Rodrigo De Paul: “Everyone knows this type of player, but I don’t like to talk about guys who aren’t here. It would be disrespectful to those who are currently part of the squad.”
The match between Inter Miami and New England Revolution takes place this Wednesday, and barring any issues, Messi is expected to lead the lineup once again.
