Lionel Messi Now Has His Own Street in New York
Lionel Messi continues leaving his mark in the United States even beyond the pitch. The Inter Miami and Argentina superstar now has a street named after him in New Jersey, just weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
The influence of Lionel Messi across North America keeps reaching new heights. Since arriving in MLS with Inter Miami, the Argentine icon has not only transformed soccer in the United States, but also become a true cultural phenomenon. Now, his legacy has grown even further after a community near New York decided to honor him by naming a street “Leo Messi Way.”
The town of Berkeley Heights, located in New Jersey and close to the New York metropolitan area, officially approved the new name for a section of Sherman Avenue. The tribute comes as excitement builds ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will feature several host cities across the United States.
A Special Tribute Ahead of the 2026 World Cup
The tribute to Messi is far from random. Local authorities are looking to embrace the growing excitement surrounding the upcoming World Cup and strengthen the connection between the community and the tournament that will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The initiative was led by the BH FIFA World Cup 26 Task Force, a group specifically created to organize community activities tied to the World Cup. For them, dedicating a street to the world champion was the perfect way to celebrate one of the greatest footballers of all time.
The “Leo Messi Way” sign was installed next to Patria Station Cafe, a popular meeting spot for Argentine supporters in New Jersey. Founded by Argentine native Carolina Zokalski, the cafe has become an iconic gathering place for Albiceleste fans in recent years.
Messi’s Growing Impact in the United States
Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi’s impact has been immediate. Stadiums sell out wherever the team plays, ticket prices have skyrocketed, and MLS has gained unprecedented global exposure.
With the 2026 World Cup rapidly approaching, Messi remains one of the biggest figures driving the sport’s growth in the United States. As he prepares for what could be his final World Cup with Argentina, his name has now been permanently placed on the streets of New Jersey.
