Inter Miami Confirm South American Preseason Tour Ahead of 2026 MLS Season
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are heading south to kick off their 2026 preparations, lining up marquee clashes against some of South America’s most storied clubs.
Peru sets the stage
Inter Miami CF have unveiled an ambitious South American preseason tour as part of their buildup to the 2026 MLS season. The journey begins on January 24 at Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, where the Herons will take on Alianza Lima.
It marks Miami’s second straight preseason visit to Peru, underlining the club’s growing connection with South American football. Alianza Lima, winners of 25 Peruvian top-flight titles, remain one of the country’s most iconic institutions.
A heavyweight test in Colombia
From Lima, Javier Mascherano’s side heads to Colombia for a high-profile showdown with Atlético Nacional on January 31 at Estadio Atanasio Girardot.
Los Verdolagas present one of the sternest challenges of the tour. Their decorated résumé includes 18 Colombian league titles, two Copa Libertadores trophies, and two Copa Interamericana crowns, ensuring a true measuring stick for the reigning MLS Cup champions.

Historic finale in Ecuador
The tour wraps up on February 7 with a landmark first-ever meeting against Barcelona de Guayaquil at Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha.
Barcelona are Ecuador’s most successful club, boasting 16 league championships, and provide the perfect setting for Miami to close out a demanding and high-level preseason slate.
A tour with global intent
This South American run further cements Inter Miami’s emergence as a global brand following their breakthrough 2025 season. Beyond competitive preparation, the tour strengthens ties with Latin American football culture and the massive fanbase that continues to follow Lionel Messi worldwide.
The timing is no coincidence either, as the club deepens its presence in key markets ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Back home and straight into a test
Following the tour, Inter Miami will return to Florida to finalize preparations before opening their 2026 MLS campaign on February 21 against LAFC.
It promises to be an early statement match for the defending champions as they launch their title defense against one of the Western Conference’s perennial contenders.
