'I'm coming to win' – Muller completes Vancouver Whitecaps transfer
The Vancouver Whitecaps have bolstered their attack for the second half of their MLS season with the addition of Thomas Muller.
For the first time in his career, Thomas Muller has a new club after completing his transfer to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday.
After a trophy-laden 17 years with Bayern Munich, Muller left the Bundesliga giants at the end of last season as a free agent and has chosen the MLS as his next destination.
The 35-year-old is under contract for the remainder of the 2025 season with a Designated Player option for 2026 for the Western Conference high-flyers.
Muller won 33 major honours during his time with Bayern, including 13 Bundesliga titles as well as two Champions League crowns in 2012-13 and 2019-20.
He featured in 755 competitive matches for Bayern in all competitions, 610 of which were starts, which is a club record. He won 543 of those games, drew 110 and lost 102.
Muller netted 250 goals for Bayern, a total only bettered by Gerd Muller (566 according to club sources) and Robert Lewandowski (344) for the reigning Bundesliga champions.
And 163 of his appearances for Bayern came in the Champions League. It's the joint-third most in the competition's history, tied with Inter Miami's Lionel Messi.
The former Germany international has also won more matches (362) than any other player in the Bundesliga's history, and he is aiming to bring that winning mentality to the MLS.
"I'm looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship," said Muller. "I've heard great things about the city, but first and foremost, I'm coming to win.
"I've had great conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, and now I can't wait to play in front of the supporters and to see all the fans come out to BC Place as we head towards the playoffs."
Muller will provide a wealth of experience to Vancouver, who are second in the Western Conference and a point adrift of leaders San Diego FC after 24 games of their season.
The Whitecaps return to MLS action on August 10 when they take on the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park.
