Centurion White wants MLS Cup glory

  • Brian White has now netted 100 MLS goals, but his sights are set on leading the Vancouver Whitecaps to a title, not individual records.

Brian White is focused wholly on leading the Vancouver Whitecaps to MLS Cup glory.

White scored his 18th league goal of the season last time out, as the Whitecaps beat San Diego FC 4-1.

The Whitecaps are closing in on clinching the number one seed in the Western Conference, which would give them home advantage all the way through the playoffs.

White's goal was his 100th in MLS, with the 30-year-old having netted double the number of goals this season as any other Whitecaps player (Thomas Muller ranks second with nine goals).

But he is not concerned with individual records.

"Something I've always wanted to get to and had my eyes on, if I'm being honest, to get to 100 goals," said White.

"But at the end of the day, you want to win championships with the team. To see those things are nice, but you want to win MLS Cup.

"I would win MLS Cup, and that's first and foremost on my mind."

Vancouver have scored 67 league goals in 2026, already setting a new club record.

They lost to Inter Miami in last year's MLS Cup showdown.

Their last two regular-season games see them face the Seattle Sounders and CF Montreal.

"We are ready to attack the last two games," said coach Jesper Sorensen. "And hopefully that will be enough also to win the Western Conference regular season."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Vancouver Whitecaps - Brian White

White took the headlines with his milestone MLS goal, but ten different Whitecaps players were involved in one of their four goals in the win over San Diego, the most in a match in club history.

They are the first team since Orlando City against D.C. United in July 2024 to have 10 different players involved in at least one goal in a match.

Seattle Sounders - Dejan Joveljic

The Sounders were shut out by the Houston Dynamo in a 1-0 defeat in midweek, and Seattle might need a big performance from Joveljic.

He has netted only three goals since the end of August.

MATCH PREDICTION: VANCOUVER WHITECAPS WIN

The Sounders had 70.5% possession in their loss to Houston on Wednesday. It was the fourth time since Opta began detailed data collection of MLS in 2010 that Seattle held at least 70% of the ball in a regular-season match, but they managed to win only one of those (D1 L2).

The Whitecaps have lost only two of their last 10 regular-season meetings with Seattle (W5 D3), including posting a 2–0 road victory on August 16.

Vancouver last defeated Seattle twice in a single regular season in 2014 when they won two of three meetings (D1).

Seattle have managed just one win in their last 13 away matches in all competitions dating back to early April (D5 L7), a 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution on October 10.

The Sounders have not won an away match against a Western Conference team since a 1-0 win at Houston on April 4.
