Folarin Balogun’s future remains unresolved. The American striker is still an AS Monaco player after his move to Everton collapsed in the final moments of the transfer window. So, what’s next for the U.S. international?
Balogun was close to returning to England and becoming an Everton player in a deal worth around $54 million, but the medical examination changed the situation.
The Premier League club raised concerns about his physical condition, and although negotiations were revived, the striker ultimately rejected the move.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro explained that the final decision came from the player. “At the last moment, the player decided not to sign,” the executive said, adding that Balogun was uncomfortable with the way the Liverpool-based club handled concerns about his health.
The outcome left AS Monaco in an unexpected situation. The club needed to generate revenue and had viewed potential sales of Balogun and Lamine Camara as possible ways to do so. However, neither transfer was completed.
WHAT OPTIONS DOES BALOGUN HAVE, ACCORDING TO MONACO?
Although Folarin Balogun will remain in Monaco for now, his future at the club is far from guaranteed. Thiago Scuro confirmed that Monaco is still in talks with clubs in other markets where the transfer window remains open and teams have the financial capacity to complete a deal.
Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Portugal are among the potential destinations, as their transfer windows remain open after the major European markets closed. Scuro was clear: “We still have open markets,” while acknowledging that some clubs have the financial resources to make a move.
As a result, the United States striker could still leave Monaco in September. If no offer satisfies all parties, the alternative would be to wait until the January transfer window.
BALOGUN LEFT OUT OF MONACO’S CONFERENCE LEAGUE SQUAD
The uncertainty surrounding Balogun increased on Friday when he was left out of Monaco’s squad for the Conference League, further fueling speculation about his immediate future. The striker has also not featured in any of the team’s four competitive matches so far this season.
The situation remains open: Balogun is still a Monaco player, but the club continues to explore a potential transfer. The priority appears to be finding a buyer that would allow Monaco to recover some of the revenue it expected from the proposed Everton deal.
If no suitable offer arrives in time, Balogun could remain at Monaco until January. However, his omission from the club’s European squad makes his future one of the biggest unanswered questions of the current transfer market.
