Vélodrome Erupts: Olympique Marseille Beats Stade Brestois 3-0 and Takes the Lead in Ligue 1
Marseille dominates Brest 3-0 and moves to the top of Ligue 1. Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood, and Aubameyang shine in a Vélodrome that witnessed a historic afternoon.
Marseille crushes Brest and takes the top of Ligue 1
Olympique de Marseille showed their dominance this Saturday at the Orange Vélodrome, defeating Stade Brestois 3-0 in a match that catapults them to first place in Ligue 1. From the opening whistle, the home team controlled the game, showcasing direct and lethal football that Brest could not counter.
The first goal came in the 25th minute, courtesy of Angel Gomes, who executed a spectacular free-kick that Brest goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki mishandled. The Vélodrome erupted at the Englishman’s precision, marking his third goal of the season and consolidating him as the man of the match.
Greenwood and Aubameyang seal the victory
Minutes later, Mason Greenwood converted a penalty after a foul on Igor Paixão, extending Marseille’s lead in the 33rd minute. His calm and confident finish showed that, in addition to talent, the young forward has ice in his veins during decisive moments.
In the second half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put the cherry on top with a goal in the 82nd minute, following a precise cross from Matt O’Riley. Marseille’s attacking trio was devastating: Gomes created, Greenwood finished, and Aubameyang closed the scoring with authority.
Brest struggles and raises doubts about consistency
On the other side, Brest was outplayed in every line. They barely generated a couple of shots on target, and their defense failed to contain the French offense. Second-half substitutions like Lucas Tousart and Rémy Labeau Lascary were not enough to change the game’s rhythm.
Brest’s lack of reaction makes it clear that they are still struggling to find consistency in Ligue 1, while Marseille demonstrates that they can compete at the highest level.
What this win means for Marseille
With this victory, Marseille reaches 25 points and moves to first place in Ligue 1. The message is clear: Marseille wants to lead the league and show that they have the squad and strategy to fight for the title.
Now, Roberto De Zerbi’s team prepares for their next match against Nice, while Brest will aim to recover at home against Metz. The overall impression is that Marseille is at their offensive best, with Gomes, Greenwood, and Aubameyang in top form and a Vélodrome that remains an impenetrable fortress.
