Tim Weah Gets His Wish: He Will Become an Olympique de Marseille Player
Tim Weah made it clear from the start: his heart was set on France. After weeks of tension, he got his wish. Marseille will be his new stage.
The wait is over! U.S. international Tim Weah will play next season with Olympique de Marseille, joining on loan from Juventus. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the deal includes a one-year loan with a €14 million buy option and an additional €3 million sell-on clause. The loan itself was sealed for €1 million, a figure that seemed far off just weeks ago.
The Turin club wasn’t eager to let Weah go, but his role diminished significantly under new manager Igor Tudor. At the Club World Cup, for example, he only played 45 minutes across four matches, and quickly fell out of favor.
A departure marked by stats and nostalgia
Tim Weah leaves Juventus after playing 78 official matches, scoring 7 goals and providing 7 assists. Ironically, his best season came most recently, with 6 goals and 5 assists—but even that wasn’t enough to cement his place.
The son of legendary George Weah joined the Italian side in the summer of 2023 from Lille, in a deal worth €12 million. Now, just a year later, he returns to a country that has always felt like home.
France, his promised land
From the beginning, Weah turned down other offers—most notably one from Nottingham Forest. His mind was set on returning to France, where he made his debut with PSG (2 goals in 6 matches) and later impressed with Lille (8 goals and 8 assists in 107 appearances). Now, under Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille, he hopes to find regular minutes and regain confidence ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where the United States will be one of the host nations.
