Monaco admit setbacks in Paul Pogba’s recovery plan
He arrived as the marquee signing of the summer, but his comeback is still on hold. Inside the club, there is open acknowledgment that things are not going as planned.
A signing full of expectations
Paul Pogba’s arrival at AS Monaco last summer generated immediate excitement. The French midfielder landed in the Principality with the clear goal of reigniting a career disrupted by repeated injuries and a doping ban that kept him away from the spotlight.
So far, however, the anticipated impact has not materialized. His availability has been limited, and the road back to full competition has proven more complicated than initially expected.
The club speaks openly
In recent hours, Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro addressed the situation head-on. He acknowledged that the original plan for Pogba is not delivering the desired results, while stressing that work continues behind the scenes.
Scuro admitted the midfielder is frustrated by his lack of continuity and limited playing time — a situation that weighs on both player and club.

Injuries and constant adjustments
From the club’s perspective, there is no single serious injury, but rather a succession of physical issues affecting different parts of Pogba’s body. That reality has forced frequent adjustments to the recovery programme.
“Very few players have suffered so many injuries in different areas,” Scuro said, describing the process as “extremely difficult,” while reiterating Monaco’s commitment to what was agreed when Pogba signed.
Mutual trust and open scenarios
Scuro also sought to clarify misconceptions surrounding Pogba’s contract, noting that many details differ from public perception. He emphasized that the relationship between AS Monaco and Paul Pogba remains honest and transparent.
The outlook remains open-ended: if the plan works, the World Cup winner could soon begin to make an impact on the pitch. If it does not, both parties will sit down to reassess their positions — though Scuro stressed that “now is not the time” for that conversation.
For now, Monaco are standing by their commitment to Paul Pogba, confident that a solution can still be found. Whether this project finally takes off, or requires another rethink, will be decided by time — and by Pogba’s ability to return to the field.
