Metz youngster Tahirys dos Santos suffers severe burns after Crans-Montana fire
The incident left several people dead and injured, including Tahirys dos Santos, a 19-year-old player from FC Metz’s youth system.
What was meant to be a celebration to welcome 2026 turned into tragedy after a fire broke out at a bar-nightclub in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana. The incident left several people dead and injured, including Tahirys dos Santos, a 19-year-old player from FC Metz’s youth system.
What happened to Tahirys dos Santos?
The young footballer was airlifted to Stuttgart, Germany, after suffering severe burns across his body.
“Saying that he is doing well would be misleading because he is suffering terribly. He has burns on 30% of his body. The positive sign is that his respiratory capacity has improved significantly,”
explained his agent, Christophe Hutteau, in an interview with BFMTV.

Metz reacts to the tragedy involving their young player
FC Metz released an official statement expressing its deep concern and support for the young prospect, describing these moments as hours in which he is “fighting through immense suffering”.
First-team player Gauthier Hein also spoke publicly about the situation:
“I want to say that the entire team is very concerned about what is happening. We all support Tahirys and his family. We are thinking of them and waiting for updates on his condition and progress. Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones”.
