Lyon Stays Hot and Catches PSG at the Top of Ligue 1
Lyon defeated Lille with a goal from Tyler Morton, catching up to PSG at the top of Ligue 1 and keeping the title race alive in the early stages of the French season.
Morton’s Goal Lifts Lyon Toward the Top
A goal from Tyler Morton just before the 15-minute mark extended Lyon’s strong run and allowed them to catch Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the top of the Ligue 1 table, as the league wrapped up its sixth matchday this weekend.
Only goal difference keeps the reigning champions, the team led by Luis Enrique, in first place after their win against Auxerre.
At the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium, Lyon capitalized on their opponent’s mistakes, as Lille grew desperate once they fell behind. A precise cross from Argentine Nicolás Tagliafico, one of the visitors’ standout performers, found Englishman Morton, who headed the ball into the net. That lone goal secured the victory.

Lyon Enters the Race for the Top Spot
Lyon earned their second straight win, following their only loss of the season against Rennes. With this result, they are now level on points with PSG, sitting second only because of goal difference.
Meanwhile, Marseille slipped to third place after Lyon’s surge.
Lille, on the other hand, is going through a rough stretch. After a perfect start with three straight wins, Bruno Genesio’s side has now suffered back-to-back defeats — last weekend against Lens and this time against Lyon — which has pushed them down the standings.
The French season is shaping up to be tightly contested, with several teams fighting for the top spots and Lyon proving they’re ready to challenge again.
