Olympique Lyon secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Stade Rennais on Saturday at the Groupama Stadium in Matchday 5 of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season. The result kept Paulo Fonseca’s side unbeaten and moved them to 11 points, good for second place in the standings.
A FAST-PACED START
Lyon took control from the opening minutes. Ernest Nuamah opened the scoring in the 7th minute before finding the net again in the 30th minute to complete his brace and give the hosts a 2-0 lead before halftime.
The match was also temporarily suspended in the first half after home supporters displayed an offensive banner, prompting the players to leave the pitch for a brief period. Play eventually resumed.
RENNES FAIL TO RESPOND AS LYON RUN RIOT
After the break, Lyon continued to apply pressure, with Zachary Athekame extending the lead in the 48th minute. Rennes enjoyed more possession during stretches of the second half but struggled to turn that control into clear-cut chances.
The rout was completed in the 76th minute, when Corentin Tolisso unleashed a powerful long-range strike to make it 4-0. Stade Rennais, who had entered the match unbeaten, suffered their first defeat of the season and remained on 10 points.
