Mbappé's Eternal Unfinished Business with PSG: The Champions League
French football star Kylian Mbappé has announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2023-2024 season, leaving behind an indelible legacy but with an eternal unfinished business that neither the Frenchman nor Messi could resolve.
The player, who is destined to inherit the mantle of one of the best footballers on the planet, came close... but never managed to win the Champions League with the Parisian club in seven seasons competing in the top club-level competition.
When he arrived in the 2017-2018 season, he bid farewell in the Round of 16 after being eliminated by Real Madrid with an aggregate score of 4-3.
In the 2018-2019 season, Manchester United repeated the feat, knocking out Mbappé's team in the Round of 16 with an aggregate score of 5-1.
In the 2019-2020 season, PSG reached the grand final held in Lisbon, in a season marked by the Coronavirus pandemic, only to be denied the title by Bayern Munich with a goal from Kingsley Coman in the 59th minute.
The 2020-2021 season saw Paris Saint-Germain's journey in this demanding competition reach the semifinals, where Manchester City proved superior with an aggregate score of 4-1.
Real Madrid once again crossed paths with Kylian Mbappé and PSG during the 2021-2022 season, and in the Round of 16, they were sent home after an exciting tie that ended with an aggregate score of 3-2.
A year later, in the 2022-2023 season, the team was once again eliminated in the Round of 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich, marking the fourth occasion PSG was eliminated at this stage with Mbappé in their ranks.
Most recently, facing Borussia Dortmund, emotions ran high at the Parc des Princes as they sought to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg... only for the tie to be confirmed with a 0-1 defeat, marking the end of Mbappé's PSG journey in a competition that will remain the eternal unfinished business for the Frenchman.
