Laporta Confirms Ansu Fati’s Next Destination
Joan Laporta confirmed that Ansu Fati is close to joining Monaco, where he will seek more playing time to recover the level he showed before his injury.
Ansu Fati set to join Monaco to reignite his career
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that, if all goes well, forward Ansu Fati will become a new Monaco player later this week. Speaking ahead of his appearance on the podcast La Llotja at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Laporta explained that the deal is nearly finalized, though he did not disclose further details.
“If everything ends well, we could have good news this week and he’ll go to Monaco,” Laporta stated. The move is expected to give the 22-year-old more minutes on the field, something he has lacked this season under Hansi Flick at Barcelona, where he struggled for playing time.
Medical tests and contract extension included in the deal
The operation involves an initial medical exam, after which Ansu Fati, who currently has a contract with Barcelona until June 2027, would extend his deal by one more year—until June 2028.
If no complications arise, the transfer will be completed this Friday, and Fati will begin training with Monaco as soon as Saturday under the guidance of Austrian coach Adi Hütter, who is reportedly fully confident in the Spanish forward’s abilities. The French club will cover half of the player's salary.
It remains unclear whether Ansu Fati will join Monaco on a loan deal with an option to buy or if there will be a buyback clause for Barcelona. The Catalan club has often used this strategy to retain control over their young talents.
For Ansu Fati, the move represents a fresh start and a chance to return to top form after years marred by injuries. Once hailed as one of world football’s most promising young stars, he now hopes to prove his worth once again—this time in Ligue 1.
