Paris Brunner was the standout performer for Monaco, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Marseille that keeps the Principality side perfect to start the Ligue 1 season.

Monaco continued its perfect start to the Ligue 1 campaign. The Principality club defeated Marseille 2-0 at Stade Louis II thanks to a decisive performance from Paris Brunner, who scored both goals in the match.

The forward opened the scoring in the 13th minute and struck again in the 53rd to seal a victory that moved the Monegasque side to six points from its first two league matches.

Although Marseille controlled possession for long stretches, Monaco proved far more effective in the final third and made better use of the chances it created.

Brunner Makes the Difference for Monaco

Paris Brunner needed little time to make his presence felt. The striker found the opening goal from a set-piece situation, allowing his team to manage the match from an early lead.

Monaco continued to look dangerous throughout the rest of the first half, with contributions from players such as Stanis Idumbo, Lamine Camara, Denis Zakaria and Aleksandr Golovin.

After halftime, Brunner punished the visitors again. In the 53rd minute, the forward scored his second goal of the afternoon to make it 2-0, completing a brace that made him the main figure of the match.

The striker also finished as Monaco's leading shooter, recording five attempts during the contest.

Marseille Control Possession but Fail to Score

Marseille finished with 65% possession and completed more passes than its opponent, but that control of the ball did not translate onto the scoreboard.

Players such as Amine Harit, Angel Gomes, Timothy Weah and Amine Gouiri tried to create danger, but the home defense managed to keep a clean sheet.

The visitors recorded only two shots on target, while Monaco finished with five and created the clearer scoring opportunities.

With the result, Monaco now has two wins from its first two matches and six points, placing the club at the top of the standings early in the season. Marseille, meanwhile, remains on three points after one victory and one defeat.
