The Most Difficult Days of Miguel Ángel Russo and His Connection With Boca Juniors
“Moments, decisions.”
One of those phrases that perfectly sums up Miguel Ángel Russo—his calmness, his strength, and his style. The Boca Juniors coach is going through a delicate time: he’s currently under home care, resting with his family, while the entire Boca community unites in support.
On a night of total dominance at La Bombonera, Boca crushed Newell’s 5–0, putting on a goal-scoring show that sent the stadium into a frenzy. Milton Giménez opened the scoring just minutes into the match, then doubled the lead with his second goal. Later, Ayrton Costa extended the advantage with a powerful header, and in the second half, Brian Aguirre added the fourth with a precise strike before Lautaro Blanco sealed the rout with a left-footed shot across goal.
After the match, Leandro Paredes dedicated the victory to Russo:
“We want to dedicate this win to Miguel because he’s the head of our group. What he’s going through isn’t easy. We’re sending him lots of strength.”
In the same spirit, Claudio “El Sifón” Úbeda, who is currently leading the team, expressed his affection for the coach:
“We want to dedicate this win to Miguel, who surely watched us on TV.”
💬 Riquelme’s Plan and the Return of the ‘Míster’
Juan Román Riquelme wanted Russo back on the bench as soon as possible. After San Lorenzo’s elimination in the 2025 Apertura semifinal, the path seemed clear. Russo, cautious as always, didn’t confirm anything publicly—but his silence spoke volumes.
📅 “I’ll speak when I feel like it,” he said firmly at a press conference. He didn’t talk about Boca or his future, but the situation at San Lorenzo was complicated: delayed salaries, internal conflicts, and a president, Marcelo Moretti, on leave amid scandals.
The club tried to keep him, even offering partial debt payments, but everyone knew Miguel’s destiny was painted blue and gold.
In an interview with Quique Feldman, Russo was crystal clear:
“You can never say no to Boca.”
It was his third stint with the club—and in Boca, love always comes back.
