The 4 Players Who Could Join Boca Juniors
The Boca world is on fire: over the last 24 hours, everything suggests that Riquelme has accelerated negotiations with at least four players.
Four signings in a row? The transfer window closes on January 27.
(Unless Boca sells a player abroad, the deadline could be extended).
(Mate sipping noise) — In recent hours, Juan Román Riquelme, president of Boca Juniors, seems to have recovered his online banking password: internally, it’s being said that he has stepped up talks with at least four players.
• Ángel Romero:
The former San Lorenzo forward, Corinthians’ all-time top foreign scorer, is said to have spoken by phone with Riquelme —at least according to local media. In recent hours, a video went viral featuring an interview with his brother, Óscar Romero, during his time at Boca, where he stated that Ángel “should play here to truly experience it, because it’s something unmatched.” Backed by his numbers in Brazil and his consistent call-ups to the Paraguay national team under Gustavo Alfaro, Romero is seeking continuity with an eye on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
• Kevin Serna:
There is said to be a “verbal agreement,” although after the Hinestroza case, nothing is certain until the photo and the signed contract are official. The 28-year-old Colombian winger, who played for Fluminense last year, has once again been linked to Boca. His name was already on the radar in 2025, and with Boca searching for attacking options on the wings, he re-emerges as an alternative the club is monitoring closely—although, for now, there are no formal negotiations underway.
• Santiago Ascacíbar:
“El Ruso,” speaking with TyC Sports, addressed his future and, while avoiding details about the next steps in his career, chose not to mention Boca or any other clubs that have shown interest. This morning, reports emerged that Román could make another move for the highly regarded midfielder, who, with his cautious remarks, hinted that a new destination could be on the horizon:
“There’s still time. We have to wait, I’m still here. My focus is on the club,” he said, while subtly suggesting that he is closely following the transfer market and awaiting a potential offer.
• Alexis Cuello:
After the setback in negotiations for Hinestroza, Boca stepped up talks for the San Lorenzo forward. However, discussions have not been straightforward: between big clubs, there is always reluctance when it comes to strengthening a direct rival. In recent hours, the Ciclón’s president made a strong statement:
“We don’t know if Riquelme is going to call. A proposal arrived, we responded 48 hours ago and left the door open. I haven’t spoken to anyone from Boca. Cuello is worth his release clause; we own 60%, so we negotiate. Cuello stays with us.”
• Rodrigo Auzmendi:
Currently a Banfield striker. In recent hours, Juan Román Riquelme inquired about conditions for the “No. 9,” although this has not been confirmed by Boca. At Banfield, however, they “claim negotiations are underway for Auzmendi,” according to Diego Yudcovsky on Directo al Hueso, via Picado TV. The forward joined El Taladro in mid-2025, is 25 years old, and in just a few months in Argentine football has already begun to draw close attention.
