Paulo Dybala Reportedly Set on Joining Boca Juniors, Says Leandro Paredes’ Father
The aftermath of Boca Juniors’ Superclásico victory over River Plate has sent shockwaves beyond Argentina. According to Daniel Paredes — father of World Cup–winning midfielder Leandro Paredes — AS Roma star Paulo Dybala has decided to join Boca Juniors.
Speaking with Cadena Xeneize, Paredes shared what could become one of the biggest transfer stories in South American football:
“Paulo has a Boca heart, and he wants to come,” he said. “I heard him say it myself — he told his people he’s coming.”
Paredes also suggested that Dybala could soon share the pitch with his son:
“Paulo will come, and they’ll play together.”
The midfielder’s father even revealed a personal motivation behind the move:
“His baby girl will be a Boca fan, and she’ll watch her dad play at La Bombonera,” he added, referring to Dybala’s soon-to-be-born daughter with Argentine singer and actress Oriana Sabatini.
A rumor fueled by a massive Superclásico win
The timing of the revelation couldn’t be better for Boca fans. The Xeneizes are still celebrating a commanding 2–0 win over River Plate, with goals from Exequiel Zeballos and Miguel Merentiel. The victory not only restored pride in Argentina’s biggest rivalry but also secured Boca’s spot in the 2026 Copa Libertadores group stage.
For supporters, the idea of Dybala joining Leandro Paredes — his close friend and former Roma teammate — feels increasingly possible. The two share a deep connection, both professionally and personally, having won the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 World Cup together with Argentina.
Dybala’s uncertain future in Europe
Under contract with AS Roma until mid-2026, Dybala has faced another frustrating, injury-filled season. The 30-year-old forward has played just nine official matches, missing seven through muscle problems. Despite limited time, he has scored twice (against Viktoria Plzeň and Sassuolo) and delivered one assist.
His fitness issues have raised questions in Italy about his long-term future with Roma — and whether the Argentine playmaker might be ready for a new chapter, possibly one closer to home.
Dybala, notably, has never played in Argentina’s top division. After debuting at Instituto de Córdoba in the country’s second tier, he moved to Europe as a teenager to join Palermo, then became a global star at Juventus before signing with Roma in 2022.
A potential reunion in blue and gold
If the move materializes, Dybala would join a Boca Juniors roster already filled with experience and international pedigree. Alongside Leandro Paredes, Boca’s squad includes Agustín Marchesín, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera, and Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.
With the Superclásico triumph, Boca climbed to the top of Group A with 26 points, securing home advantage for the upcoming playoffs and a ticket to the Copa Libertadores. Before that, they’ll close the group stage at La Bombonera against Tigre — where fans will undoubtedly be chanting one name above all:
“Dybala, Dybala…”
