Boca Juniors Strike at the Monumental to Win the Superclásico
Boca Juniors secured a crucial 1-0 victory over River Plate at the Monumental in another chapter of the Argentine Superclásico. A penalty from Leandro Paredes proved decisive in a hard-fought and intense contest.
Paredes makes the difference in a tight battle
The match kicked off at a high tempo, with River Plate trying to dictate play through the creativity of Kendry Páez, while Boca Juniors relied on midfield control led by Leandro Paredes.
A key moment came early when Sebastián Driussi was forced off due to injury, prompting Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet to adjust with the introduction of Maximiliano Salas.
Both teams created chances, with Miguel Ángel Merentiel posing a constant threat for the visitors. The breakthrough came just before halftime, when a handball by Lautaro Rivero inside the box led referee Darío Herrera to award a penalty.
From the spot, Leandro Paredes converted calmly to give Boca Juniors the lead.
River push, but Boca hold firm
In the second half, the momentum shifted. River Plate dominated possession and territory, pushing hard for an equalizer. However, a lack of finishing and strong saves from Leandro Brey kept them at bay.
The side coached by Claudio “Sifón” Úbeda stayed compact and looked to counterattack. Exequiel Zeballos had opportunities to extend the lead, but goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán produced key stops to keep the match alive.
Despite River’s pressure, the scoreline remained unchanged as Boca Juniors held on with discipline.
A crucial win for Boca
With this victory, Boca Juniors extend their unbeaten run and take a significant step toward the next stage of the tournament. Winning away at their fiercest rivals also provides a major psychological boost heading into the final stretch.
For River Plate, it marks the first defeat under Eduardo Coudet, in a match where they created chances but failed to convert.
The Superclásico once again delivered drama—and this time, the celebration belonged to Boca Juniors.
