World Champion Backs Franco Mastantuono to Shine at Real Madrid
Franco Mastantuono is becoming the footballer Real Madrid believed he could be when they signed him from River Plate. At just 18 years old, he has made a leap that many find incredible, but for others, it’s simply his raw talent shining through.
The latest prominent figure to share an opinion on the Argentine player was none other than a World Cup champion, Ubaldo Fillol, the former Albiceleste goalkeeper who was part of the team that won the title in Argentina 1978.
Fillol’s Statements on Franco Mastantuono
Before River Plate’s home match in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, Fillol was questioned by beIN SPORTS microphones about the potential of Real Madrid’s young signing.
“Mastantuono has had a tremendous emergence. He’s carving his own path in the national team. At Real Madrid, the competition may be different, but River Plate is also a top club in the world, so that level of demand won’t faze him. But we need to give him some time; he’s gone to a different kind of football, European football, but there’s no doubt Mastantuono will do well,” he stated.
When asked about comparisons with Lamine Yamal, another young star captivating the world, Fillol was blunt, dismissing the Barcelona player and emphasizing that Mastantuono plays for the “best club in the world.”
“I see him with a lot of potential. He’s at the best club in the world, but with time, he’ll do well,” he said.
The Argentine football legend also took a moment to talk about River Plate, noting that this first leg of the series could be crucial for gaining an advantage, especially since they’re playing at El Monumental.
“With a lot of confidence, as always. We know that River, when playing at home, always seeks to dominate. So we’re in good shape. Hopefully, 3-0 to River. You might ask a Brazilian, and they’ll tell you something different,” he concluded with a touch of humor.
