Why Isn’t Lamine Yamal Playing for Barcelona vs Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup?
Finally, Lamine Yamal was not included in FC Barcelona’s starting lineup as they faced Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup quarter-finals.
Barcelona’s lineup
FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal did not train with the rest of his teammates in the final session ahead of the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club, played at the Al Jawhara Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The attacker carried out specific individual work inside the training complex, a situation that raised doubts ahead of the match. However, the Blaugrana club sought to reassure fans beforehand, as there was confidence that the young player would be available for the decisive clash.
The rest of the squad that traveled to Saudi Arabia trained normally under head coach Hansi Flick, including centre-back Ronald Araújo, who returned to the squad after several weeks away due to personal well-being reasons.
In the pre-match press conference, Flick explained that he planned to speak with the Uruguayan defender after training to assess how he was feeling, although he admitted that Araújo’s participation was not initially part of the match plan.
Heading into the semi-final, the only players officially ruled out were Pablo Páez Gavira (Gavi) and Andreas Christensen, who remained in Barcelona to continue their respective injury recovery processes.
