What Might Mbappé Miss Out On? Five Matches Kylian Mbappé May Not Play Due to a Knee Injury
Kylian Mbappé, following his recent knee sprain, will not play key matches for Real Madrid at the start of 2026, including semifinals and derbies.
What happened to Kylian Mbappé?
On Wednesday, Madrid fans woke up to the news that French football star Kylian Mbappé had suffered a knee injury that would keep him out of the field for weeks.
Although Mbappé had taken part in a public training session the day before, without any visible discomfort, Madrid's number 10 will not be able to play in the upcoming matches.
Real Madrid Club de Fútbol and its medical team issued a statement describing the player's condition as a sprain in his left knee.
What does this mean for Mbappé and Real Madrid?
At first, Los Merengues will not be able to count on the French star for their LaLiga match against Real Betis on Sunday, January 4. This match is Real Madrid's first of the new year 2026.

Spanish Super Cup: Mbappé ABSENT
The Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Atlético Madrid, to be played on Thursday, January 8, would also be one of the matches affected by the French striker's absence and would put Real Madrid in a complex situation ahead of their Madrid derby.
Another extremely important match for Los Merengues that is in jeopardy due to Mbappé's injury is the Spanish Super Cup final, given that Real Madrid managed to beat Atlético on Sunday, in which they would face Fútbol Club Barcelona or Athletic Bilbao in the long-awaited final, to be played on January 11 in Saudi Arabia.
What does the future hold for the French star?
Kylian Mbappé is also expected not to play the matches against Levante UD in LaLiga and AS Monaco in the Champions League during the second half of January. Real Madrid Club de Fútbol is reportedly monitoring his progress in hopes that he will soon rejoin the squad.
