What Injury Does Kylian Mbappé Have? Real Madrid Clarifies His Condition After the Knock With France
Concern has once again spread through Real Madrid and the French national team after Kylian Mbappé suffered another knock to his right ankle during France’s 3–0 win over Azerbaijan in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The forward was the star of the match, scoring one goal and assisting another, but was forced off in the 82nd minute after a hard tackle that alarmed the French bench.
A knock that rekindles old issues
According to the French Football Federation (FFF), Mbappé “is not fit to play” in Monday’s match against Iceland in Reykjavik due to “a blow to the right ankle.” The affected area is the same one that had already been bothering him in recent days while playing for Real Madrid, prompting the national team’s medical staff to rule him out as a precaution.
Although the injury is not considered serious, concern arises from the recurring discomfort in that joint. During the match against Azerbaijan, the French captain required treatment on the pitch before being substituted for Florian Thauvin, visibly frustrated.
After the game, Mbappé traveled directly to Madrid to undergo further tests with the club’s medical staff, who confirmed there was no bone damage but advised a short period of rest.
Rest in Madrid and expected return against Getafe
Sources from Real Madrid, cited by EFE, report that Mbappé will rest completely for three days before resuming training at Valdebebas. The goal of Xabi Alonso’s coaching staff is to have him fit for the upcoming LaLiga clash against Getafe, scheduled for next weekend at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

The club is taking a cautious approach, as the Frenchman had already been substituted for similar discomfort during the match against Villarreal. Despite the scare, all indications suggest that the striker will not miss any major fixtures and that the rest period is purely preventive to avoid aggravating the injury.
At the same time, Real Madrid is also monitoring Franco Mastantuono, who left Argentina’s training camp due to muscle fatigue. The medical staff have ruled out a tear, but the youngster will undergo further tests upon his return to the Spanish capital.
For now, the good news for Madrid fans is that Mbappé does not have a serious injury. His rest period will be brief, and he is expected to return to lead the team’s attack within a few days.
