Victor Font Places Lionel Messi at the Heart of His Barcelona Presidential Campaign Promises
The Barcelona presidential candidate asserts that, should he win, his first course of action will be to call Lionel Messi to open a new chapter at the club
With the presidential elections just around the corner, Víctor Font, a frontrunner for the FC Barcelona leadership, has ignited fans' hopes with a clear pledge: if elected, his first act will be to reach out to Lionel Messi to rebuild the bridge with the club and mark the beginning of a new chapter in Blaugrana history.
During a public event, Font emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the club's legends. 'Messi is part of our history and deserves a role that matches his legacy,' stated the businessman and leader of the Nosaltres platform. His words have reignited the debate over the relationship between Barcelona and the Argentine star following his departure in 2021—an episode that still stirs mixed emotions among the fans.
While Messi remains a key figure at Inter Miami, where he has achieved notable success, rumors of a potential temporary return to Europe have not ceased. Font, however, clarified that his intention goes beyond a symbolic gesture: although he did not specify whether Messi's return would be as a player, an ambassador, or in an institutional role, he made it clear that his involvement would have a real impact on the club's future
Furthermore, the candidate seized the opportunity to distance himself from Joan Laporta’s current board, pointing out that the elections on March 15 represent a chance for deep-seated change in the club’s management.
Font, who finished as runner-up in the 2021 elections with nearly 30% of the vote, is now looking to tap into the affection that members still hold for Messi—a figure who remains a core symbol of the Barcelonista identity. The winner of the election will officially take office on July 1, 2026, in a process expected to be highly contested, with names like Joan Laporta, Xavier Vilajoana, and Marc Ciria also in the race.
