Two Key Absences in Real Madrid Training
The Real Madrid squad is preparing for its return to LaLiga, where it will face RCD Mallorca this Saturday with the goal of staying in the title race against FC Barcelona. All international players have rejoined the team and completed training, except for two players.
Vinícius Jr. and Federico Valverde, the Absentees of the Day
Vinícius Jr. and Federico Valverde did not take part in the training session ahead of the match, although for different reasons.
In the case of the Uruguayan, he requested special permission to be absent. “El Pajarito” will not play against RCD Mallorca due to the suspension following the red card he received in the derby against Atlético de Madrid. Although he was expected to report, the club granted him permission to attend to personal matters and recover physically after the international break, where he played full matches for Uruguay against England and Algeria.
Meanwhile, Vinícius Jr. did report to Valdebebas but did not train with the group. The coaching staff assigned him recovery work after his accumulated workload: he played a full match against France and 67 minutes against Croatia.
Workload Management With an Eye on the Champions League
The Brazilian is dealing with some physical fatigue, which is understandable considering he has been a regular in Álvaro Arbeloa’s system. He has played in almost every match this season, except for the game against Valencia due to suspension. Therefore, the club’s intention is to manage his minutes carefully during this decisive final stretch.
As expected, Federico Valverde will not be available against RCD Mallorca, and Vinícius Jr. is not likely to start. Although he will be included in the squad, his minutes will be managed.
Real Madrid has suffered several injuries throughout the season and does not want to take unnecessary risks, especially with a player like Vinícius Jr., who has regained his best form and become a key piece. His numbers back it up: 17 goals and 13 assists so far this season.
Álvaro Arbeloa trusts the depth of the squad and its young players. While RCD Mallorca represents a tough opponent—especially at home and fighting to avoid relegation—the coach is prioritizing reaching the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich with his most important players fresh and available.
