Total Rebuild Incoming? Hansi Flick’s Summer Transfer Demands for Barcelona
As he fights for immediate results, Hansi Flick is already looking ahead — and has presented a list of key signings that could reshape Barcelona’s future.
A Barça focused on the present… and the future
Hansi Flick is working with a split vision: on one hand, trying to reclaim the LaLiga lead and secure direct qualification to the Champions League round of 16; on the other, building next season’s squad in advance.
Alongside sporting director Deco and the club’s technical committee, the German coach has mapped out clear priorities: Barça must reinforce the squad with a left-footed center-back, a winger, and a center-forward.
A left-footed center-back, the top priority
The unexpected departure of Iñigo Martínez last summer left Barcelona without a profile Flick considers essential. Without a natural left-footed defender, the back line has lost balance, automatisms, and the ability to execute the offside line with precision — an area where Iñigo excelled.
The consequences were immediate: Cubarsí has been pushed out of his natural position, and the remaining center-backs haven’t been able to replicate the tactical reading that role demands.
For this reason, the club is even considering accelerating the signing as early as January, provided financial fair play allows it. It won’t be easy: the winter market is limited, and Flick insists the reinforcement must be a natural left-footer — not an improvised solution.
Barcelona’s shortlist includes:
Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting), Murillo (Nottingham Forest), Nico Schlotterbeck (Dortmund), Benedetti (Palmeiras), and Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), who becomes a free agent in June.
A new No. 9: life after Lewandowski
With Lewandowski entering the final year of his contract and turning 38 next summer, Barcelona acknowledges the need to sign a starting striker.
Julián Álvarez is one of the preferred options, but the recent investment of the Apollo fund in Atlético Madrid could complicate negotiations with Manchester City or shift the dynamics of the striker market.
This is why Harry Kane has gained traction internally: his €65 million release clause makes the operation more realistic… and Flick knows him well from the Bundesliga.
The dream of signing Haaland has also surfaced, but within the club it is widely considered unrealistic.
A versatile winger to complete the attack
The third reinforcement would be a winger capable of playing on both flanks and providing depth. Barcelona is seriously considering activating the €30 million purchase option for Marcus Rashford, although the decision will depend on his performance throughout the season.
Other names remain on the radar, including Rafael Leão — always appealing, but difficult due to cost and competition.
Furthermore, Barça must be ready for potential movement on another front: Raphinha, now 29, continues to attract strong interest from Saudi Arabia and could contemplate an exit if a major offer arrives.
