Thibaut Courtois Invests in the Return of Iconic Belgian Nightclub Versuz
Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has surprised many by announcing his involvement as one of the investors backing the revival of Versuz, one of the most emblematic nightclubs in Belgium’s nightlife scene. The project, revealed by Het Belang van Limburg, aims to bring back the glory of a venue that defined several generations.
What’s next for Versuz?
The legendary club, located in Hasselt, near Courtois’ hometown of Bree, closed its doors in May 2025 with the promise of being transformed into a larger and more versatile space. Now, driven by a group of entrepreneurs that includes Courtois, the venue will be reborn with an expected capacity of 4,000 people, combining the space of the old Versuz with the neighboring Area V.
The renovation plans include a complete modernization of the sound system, lighting, and interior design, with the goal of turning the venue into a multifunctional hub capable of hosting both concerts and international events. Over the years, Versuz has welcomed world-class DJs such as David Guetta, Tiësto, and Martin Solveig, cementing its status as a European nightlife landmark.

Courtois’ personal connection
Courtois’ involvement is not random. Yves Smolders, the founder of Versuz, was also responsible for organizing the goalkeeper’s wedding after-party in Cannes back in 2021, a collaboration that sparked a bond of trust now turning into a business venture.
This isn’t Courtois’ first foray into the entertainment industry. In 2019, the goalkeeper supported the launch of Artist Amplifier, a music center based in Hasselt, reaffirming his interest in connecting with culture and music beyond football.
A new chapter for Belgian nightlife
The return of Versuz is more than just the reopening of a nightclub—it’s about revitalizing a cultural and entertainment space that left its mark on the European scene. With Courtois and other investors backing the project, Hasselt will once again boast an iconic venue for music and nightlife, now reimagined with a modern approach and large-scale experiences.
