Thiago Almada Presented as New Atlético de Madrid Signing: “It Was My Dream to Play Here”
Thiago Almada is now officially a player for Atlético de Madrid. The Argentine forward was unveiled on Tuesday as one of the club’s marquee signings for the 2025–26 season. Speaking to the media for the first time, the World Cup winner with Argentina said: “It was my dream to play at Atleti,” adding that he didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose.
“I’ve Always Had a Lot of Affection for the Club”
The 23-year-old forward expressed his excitement about joining Los Rojiblancos:
“I chose Atlético de Madrid because I have a lot of affection for the club and its history, and I’ve had several friends who played here. When they told me there was a chance to come, I didn’t hesitate. It’s a dream I’ve always wanted to fulfill,” Almada said.
He is already working under Diego Pablo Simeone during the team’s preseason in Los Ángeles de San Rafael (Segovia).
“My teammates welcomed me really well, which made me feel more comfortable. I want to give my all, enjoy this moment, and give everything to Atlético de Madrid,” he added.
Tactical Role and Connection With Fellow Argentines
Almada explained that he can play in any attacking position, though he prefers starting on the left wing and cutting inside. He also noted the value of sharing the locker room with several Argentine teammates:
“Having more Argentinians around is a great thing. We share a lot of time together.”
He also praised his connection with Julián Álvarez, whom he has played alongside for the national team:
“In recent matches, we’ve developed great chemistry. I’ve assisted him a few times and we’re getting to know each other even better now.”
Almada’s arrival comes shortly after the departure of Ángel Correa, a close friend of his:
“Whenever I spoke to Ángel, he told me about the club, the fans, the stadium, and the city.”

Transfer Details and Warm Welcome From the Club
Thiago Almada joins from Botafogo, although he had been on loan at Olympique Lyonnais since January due to the shared ownership between both clubs. His career began at Vélez Sarsfield in Argentina before moving to Atlanta United in MLS.
During the presentation, club president Enrique Cerezo welcomed him with heartfelt words:
“You’re a talented and versatile player. You’re joining a club where many of your fellow Argentines have succeeded, defending this badge with heart and courage. Welcome to Atlético de Madrid—your home for many years to come.”
