The Million-Euro Fine Lamine Yamal Could Face Over Controversial Birthday Party
Lamine Yamal, one of FC Barcelona's brightest young talents, may find himself in serious legal and financial trouble after celebrating his 18th birthday. What was meant to be a joyful night marking his entry into adulthood has turned into the center of a major public controversy.
The young forward hosted an extravagant private party where he reportedly hired individuals with dwarfism as part of the entertainment. Images from the event quickly spread on social media, sparking widespread criticism and institutional backlash. Several Spanish organizations representing people with disabilities condemned the celebration, calling it degrading.

“This is not inclusion; it’s objectification disguised as humor,” stated one of the associations. The uproar grew so intense that the Ministry of Social Rights formally requested investigations by the Prosecutor's Office, the Ombudsman, and the Hate Crimes Office. If the incident is confirmed to have violated laws protecting the dignity of people with disabilities, Lamine Yamal could face fines ranging from €600,000 to €1 million.
Silence from FC Barcelona as Pressure Mounts
Neither the player nor FC Barcelona have issued official statements, further fueling public discontent. The Director General for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities did not hold back: “Hiring people with dwarfism to entertain at a private party is demeaning. It takes us back to a black-and-white past.”
One of the performers hired for the party came forward to defend the event, saying he did not feel humiliated and has the right to work. However, human rights advocates argue that the real issue is the broader societal message such acts convey.
A Milestone Moment Overshadowed
Ironically, this controversy coincided with one of the most significant moments in Lamine Yamal’s young career. The forward signed a new contract with Barcelona through 2031 and inherited the legendary number 10 jersey worn by icons like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Diego Maradona. “Messi had his path, and I will make mine,” the young star said proudly after printing his name on the iconic shirt.
Unfortunately, the spotlight has shifted away from his footballing achievements. What should have been a celebration of his rise to stardom has instead turned into a potential image crisis for both the player and the club.
