The Massive Fee Real Madrid Is Willing to Pay to Sign Rodri
Real Madrid knows exactly who they want to fill the void left by Toni Kroos: Rodri. The problem isn’t the desire… it’s the massive fee it would take to pry him away from City. Is he worth every penny?
Rodri, the chosen one to replace Kroos
Real Madrid is still searching for Toni Kroos’ successor, and one name is gaining traction again: Rodrigo Hernández, Manchester City’s midfield anchor. At 29 and under contract until 2027, the Spaniard fits perfectly into Xabi Alonso’s vision of a balanced squad. The only problem? City has no intention of letting him go—at least not for cheap.
Spanish journalist Antón Meana, a reliable Real Madrid insider, broke it down on El Larguero: “The only one who fits right now is Rodri. But it’s not a viable deal at the moment. City won’t sell, and we still have to see how he looks post-injury.”
100 million to make it happen
Meana dropped the key phrase: “To become available means 100 million and City letting him go.” In other words, if Manchester City agrees to negotiate, Madrid is ready to break the market for one of the world’s most complete midfielders. For now, the plan is to stick with what they have and only pursue the deal if the opportunity arises.
Inside the Bernabéu, they believe no other holding midfielder on the market fits the profile like Rodri. That’s why no one else will be signed this summer… unless he suddenly becomes available. Plain and simple.
A dream that could wait one more year
Although Real Madrid doesn’t see the deal happening this summer, they aren’t ruling it out for 2026. The priority is obvious, and the gap left by Kroos is too significant not to dream about a world-class replacement.
The real issue? Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to lose one of his most essential players. But Rodri already knows Madrid is waiting. Now it’s just a matter of whether City will be tempted by that 100-million offer.
