The First Team to Contact Xabi Alonso After His Shocking Departure From Real Madrid
In Germany, rumors have begun to gain momentum about a possible return of Xabi Alonso to the Bundesliga, this time to take over the bench at Eintracht Frankfurt, which became vacant following the dismissal of Dino Toppmöller last Sunday.
Xabi Alonso already a target in Germany
According to the newspaper Bild, the club views the Spanish coach as a top-tier, prestige option, and sporting director Markus Krösche is reportedly pushing to meet with him and seriously assess a potential move.
The report comes just days after the coach from Tolosa was dismissed as head coach of Real Madrid, reigniting his name in the elite coaching market.
Toppmöller’s exit followed a 3–3 draw against Werder Bremen and a worrying run of results. Having conceded 39 goals in 18 matches, Eintracht sit seventh in the Bundesliga and boast one of the weakest defenses in the league— a decisive factor behind the board’s decision to change course.
Still according to Bild, the Frankfurt club is also considering other candidates such as Edin Terzić, Marco Rose, and Roger Schmidt. However, the primary objective at Deutsche Bank Park would be to convince Xabi Alonso to return to Germany and lead a new sporting project.
Despite the interest, the scenario does not appear straightforward. After his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso was on the radar of European giants such as Bayern Munich and Liverpool before signing with Real Madrid. A move back to Eintracht would not only require a significant financial effort but could also be seen as a step backward in his career.
Everything suggests, therefore, that the Spanish coach will not rush his decision and will wait for the right opportunity within a major European project. Even so, Frankfurt are ready to play all their cards.
