Ter Stegen Breaks Silence at Joan Gamper Trophy After Dispute With Barcelona
FC Barcelona enjoyed a special day as they presented their squad ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy, in an atmosphere that mixed anticipation, ovations, and a clear message from one of the team’s leaders. German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, the club’s first captain, took the opportunity to make it clear that the period of tensions with the board is now behind him.
What Did Ter Stegen Say About His Situation?
Speaking to the fans at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, Ter Stegen said it had been “important to resolve the matter with the club” and that now it was “time to look forward.” The crowd’s reaction was largely supportive, with more applause than whistles during his presentation.
The goalkeeper also welcomed the club’s new signings—goalkeeper Joan García and forwards Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji—stating they would “fit in very well in this locker room” and that the team would be “stronger” with their arrival.
How Does He View the Upcoming Season?
Ter Stegen thanked manager Hansi Flick and his staff for their work, noting that last season he “enjoyed it as a fan” despite the circumstances that kept him off the pitch. According to the captain, the team has regained “a winning style of football” and hopes to maintain that level in the new campaign.
Earlier, Flick also addressed the 6,000 fans in attendance, thanking them in Spanish for their support and promising hard work “without excuses” to fight for “many matches and many trophies” in the club’s return to the Spotify Camp Nou.
