Spain Explains Why Rodrygo Hasn’t Left Real Madrid — And the Reason Surprises Man
The transfer window has officially closed, and LaLiga EA Sports squads are now set until January. Over the summer, speculation surrounded several moves at Real Madrid, with one of the most talked-about being the possible departure of Rodrygo Goes. Yet, the Brazilian remains under Xabi Alonso, and according to reports in Spain, the reason is straightforward — and it has sparked debate.
The key behind Rodrygo’s stay
On ElDesmarque Madrugada, journalist Siro López was blunt: “Rodrygo Goes hasn’t left because no offer arrived at Real Madrid.” His statement contradicted theories suggesting the decision was down to the coach’s lack of trust or the player’s dip in form last season, when he lost prominence in key matches such as the Club World Cup and early LaLiga fixtures.
López even joked that had a proposal of around €100 million arrived, the club and Florentino Pérez would have “wrapped him up in paper to sell him.”
Fellow analyst Nacho Peña supported this view, emphasizing that both the board and Xabi Alonso were open to listening if the player had asked to leave — but only if a serious offer was on the table. Since that never happened, the Brazilian remains part of the Madrid squad.
Rodrygo’s role under Xabi Alonso
Rodrygo’s continuity is both a relief and a challenge for Real Madrid. While his presence boosts squad depth, he finds himself as backup to Vinícius Jr., limiting his starting opportunities. Still, his versatility in attack makes him a valuable asset, capable of contributing across multiple positions.
Despite criticism, neither the club nor the player seriously considered an exit. For many pundits, Rodrygo’s stay ensures Madrid retains a top-level attacking option and strengthens internal competition within the squad.
With the season now underway, Rodrygo Goes will have the chance to prove he can return to the form that once made him an undisputed starter and key player on big European nights at the Santiago Bernabéu. Far from being seen as a failed transfer move, his stay could turn into one of Xabi Alonso’s most important weapons in Madrid’s quest for trophies.
