Robert Lewandowski starts pulling away from Barcelona
The 37-year-old Polish international striker is facing the end of his contract just around the corner and is getting closer to making a crucial decision about his immediate future. According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Robert Lewandowski is not considering renewing with the Catalan club and is solidifying options in a new horizon: Major League Soccer (MLS).
Lewandoski's numbers
The icon of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and now also Futbol Club Barcelona has scored 621 goals in 864 matches. His contract with the Blaugrana is nearing expiration, and the Pole could have the opportunity to land in the United States this summer.
The case of MLS
He wouldn’t be the first player to go to Major League Soccer; it’s one of the fastest-growing leagues outside the old European continent. In fact, one of the players who has shaped the history of soccer and is the current world champion is playing in it. Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Thierry Henry, Kaká, Wayne Rooney, Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Vela, and Javier "Chicharito" Hernández are just some of the world-renowned players who have played in the MLS at some point. Today, the most interesting case is that of David Beckham, who played in MLS and later became the owner of one of its clubs, Inter Miami, where legends like Lionel Messi and figures like Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets play.
Major League Soccer could present itself as a novel option in the Polish striker’s career; it remains to be seen how his contract situation unfolds, and if it isn’t renewed, where he’ll decide to go.
