Real Madrid Mourns the Death of Giorgio Armani, Fashion Legend and Owner of Olimpia Milano
The worlds of fashion and sport went into mourning this Thursday after the death of Italian designer Giorgio Armani, at the age of 91. Real Madrid publicly expressed its condolences in a statement, describing the creator as “one of the most important and iconic figures in the history of fashion.”
Real Madrid’s tribute
In its official message, the Spanish club also recalled Armani’s role as the owner of Olimpia Milano, an institution he had been linked to since 2008. Under his management, the Italian basketball team won six league titles, four Cups and five national Supercups.
“Real Madrid C.F., its president and its Board of Directors deeply mourn the passing of Giorgio Armani. The club wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family, loved ones, his club and all its supporters,” the club wrote on its website.
The statement concluded with a note of respect: “He passed away at the age of 91. Rest in peace.”
A life marked by fashion and sport
Known as the “king of Italian fashion,” Giorgio Armani became a global icon thanks to his sober, elegant and revolutionary style in the textile industry. Founder of his own empire in 1975, he played a key role in cementing the prestige of Italian fashion worldwide.

Beyond his legacy on the catwalk, Armani poured part of his passion into sport through his support of basketball. His relationship with Olimpia Milano not only strengthened the club competitively but also turned it into a symbol of the bond between fashion and sport, two worlds that always defined him.
The designer passed away in Milan, surrounded by his family and Leo Dell’Orco, his partner and companion of the last 20 years, according to his business group. The news leaves a huge void in both fashion and sport, where his influence and style will continue to be remembered.
