Pedri Stays Loyal to FC Barcelona
The importance of Pedri within FC Barcelona is enormous. The Canary Islands midfielder has not only become one of the team captains, but also the player through whom much of the club’s attacking play flows. His vision, intelligence, and quality have turned him into an essential piece for the club’s present and future.
In an interview with Televisión Canaria, Pedri spoke about his future and delivered a message that thrilled Barça fans everywhere.
“I wouldn’t trade Barça for anything. For me, Barcelona is the best there is.”
With those words, the Spanish star made it clear that his commitment to the club is absolute. Pedri knows that several European giants are closely monitoring him and that his performances continue to attract attention across the continent, but he assured that he has no intention of listening to offers because his dream has always been to succeed at Camp Nou.
A Lifelong Love for Barça
During the interview, Pedri also shared a special story from his childhood. He revealed that his grandfather opened an FC Barcelona supporters’ club in the Canary Islands, where his passion for the team began while watching matches as a kid. Years later, he would go on to debut for the club of his dreams and become one of its biggest stars.
Now, Pedri is fully focused on the FIFA World Cup with Spain, where he is expected to be one of the most important players for the side coached by Luis de la Fuente.
The midfielder admitted that he hates losing “even at marbles” and said he arrives at the World Cup with a sense of revenge after missing out on the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. He also recalled that although he became a European champion with Spain, he could not fully play in the final because of the injury he suffered following a challenge from Toni Kroos in the semifinals.
The Legends Who Inspired Pedri
Pedri also spoke about his biggest football influences: Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta. He explained that he always tries to scan the field before receiving the ball in order to anticipate plays, something he learned by watching the legendary Barcelona midfield for years.
“I think that makes the difference: knowing what you’re going to do before you receive the ball.”
Pedri’s season with Barcelona was spectacular. He played 43 matches and recorded 12 assists, but the numbers alone do not fully explain everything he brings to the pitch. Nearly 80% of Barça’s attacking moves and clear scoring chances started from his feet.
If Spain wants to win the second World Cup in its history, Pedri will be the key.
