Official: Antony Returns to Real Betis, the Club Where His Career Was Revived
Real Betis Balompié has pulled off a major move in the transfer market by signing Antony dos Santos on a permanent deal. The Brazilian winger, 25, returns to the Benito Villamarín after a successful loan spell in the second half of last season. The transfer from Manchester United marks a long-term bet on one of the most exciting players to wear the green-and-white shirt in recent years.
What Are the Details of the Deal?
Betis will pay around €25 million to Manchester United, along with 50% of any potential future sell-on fee. Antony has signed a contract until 2030 and will wear the iconic No. 7 shirt, aiming to become a fan favorite in Seville once again.
The club announced the move with a creative campaign on social media, reviving the nickname “Antonio de Triana” that supporters gave him during his loan spell. “Antonio has changed Triana, but Betis has changed him,” read the official message, accompanied by images of Seville’s Puente de Triana.
Why Did Antony Want to Return to Betis?
The Brazilian winger was not in the plans of Rúben Amorim, Manchester United’s current coach, and made it clear early in the summer that his priority was to return to Seville. That determination helped push through long and complex negotiations that ultimately led to the final agreement.
During his loan, Antony rediscovered confidence and form: 9 goals and 6 assists in 26 matches, statistics that convinced the Betis board to make the move permanent. The fans also pushed for his return, recognizing the impact he had on the team’s attacking play last season.

Antony’s Career Path
A product of São Paulo, Antony made his professional debut in 2018 before joining Ajax, where he developed into one of Europe’s brightest young wingers. His performances in Amsterdam earned him a high-profile move to Manchester United in 2022 for €95 million.
However, his time in England fell short of expectations: just 12 goals and 5 assists in 96 appearances for the Red Devils.
Now, at 25 and with 16 caps for Brazil, Antony returns to Real Betis with a chance to revive his career under Manuel Pellegrini, who expects him to join the squad immediately in Seville.
