José Mourinho was pleased with Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Ferencváros, but beyond the result, the friendly in Budapest delivered two important developments for Los Blancos: the first preseason minutes for Vinícius Júnior and Bernardo Silva.

Both players started on the bench and came on during the second half after joining the team's preparations later than most of their teammates due to their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, much of the attention was focused on Vinícius, especially after several weeks of speculation surrounding his future.

Mourinho Celebrates Vinícius Staying

After reports linked the Brazilian with a potential move to Arsenal, Vinícius put an end to the uncertainty by renewing his contract with Real Madrid through 2032.

It was news that particularly pleased Mourinho.

During the post-match press conference, the Portuguese coach stressed that the renewal was good news not only for the player but for the entire club.

For Mourinho, this was also not the time to demand the best version of the Brazilian. Vinícius has only completed a limited number of training sessions since returning from his break, and the coaching staff understands that he will need time to regain peak physical condition.

The Portuguese manager explained that he did not expect the winger to immediately produce his trademark 50-meter runs and finish off chances. The objective is to gradually bring him back to his best, and Mourinho expects to see a physically sharper version of the Brazilian in the next friendly against Deportivo de La Coruña.

The renewal also allows Real Madrid to put an end to one of the biggest uncertainties surrounding the squad. Under contract through 2032, Vinícius once again stands as one of the central pieces of Mourinho's project.

Bernardo Silva Gives Real Madrid More Options

The other major name of the day was Bernardo Silva.

The former Manchester City player also made his first appearance of the preseason and, although he is still some way from reaching peak physical condition, Mourinho made it clear that his versatility will be extremely valuable to the team.

The Portuguese coach tested Bernardo in different areas of midfield. He can operate from a deeper position, play as a central midfielder, or even move into the No. 10 role when the match requires more creativity closer to the penalty area.

During the friendly, Mourinho moved him further forward after noticing that he was still lacking match fitness, bringing on Cestero to provide greater balance behind him.

That ability to operate in three or even four different positions makes the Portuguese midfielder particularly valuable for a squad that Mourinho intends to keep relatively small, with around 20 available players.

Real Madrid Wins and Continues Fine-Tuning

As for the result, Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Ferencváros at the Groupama Arena in Budapest.

Mario Rivas opened the scoring for Los Blancos before Carlos Espí doubled the advantage, while Kenan Kodro pulled one back for the Hungarian side.

Beyond the victory, the friendly gave Mourinho another opportunity to distribute minutes and reintegrate players following the World Cup. The coach still has to manage a squad without several important players, including Rodrygo, Éder Militão, and Ferland Mendy, who, according to the manager, will need a few more weeks before returning.

But the biggest news in Budapest went beyond the final score. Vinícius Júnior was back in a Real Madrid shirt after renewing his contract through 2032 and putting the speculation surrounding his future behind him. Now, both he and Bernardo Silva face a race against time to rediscover their best form before the serious business begins.
