Jose Mourinho believes his Real Madrid team are "progressing in every aspect" following their pre-season win over Deportivo de A Coruna.

Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the contest at Estadio Abanca-Riazor, where Los Blancos won the Teresa Herrara Trophy for the 10th time.

Vinicius Junior captained the side while Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Endrick all started for Madrid in the friendly.

Mourinho's side were comfortable throughout, conceding just 0.34 xG (expected goals) and no big chances in the victory.

Madrid have won three of their four pre-season games under Mourinho (D1), and the Portuguese coach is pleased with their work so far ahead of the new season.

"The team is progressing in every aspect, but obviously, the difficulty of the matches, as we’ve planned with this goal in mind, is increasing," Mourinho told the club's media channel.

"It was great to come here, with this atmosphere. We know that these summer tournaments are worth what they’re worth.

"The home team, due to tradition and culture, wants their trophy. Competing in this way is very good training for us.

"It was a serious match against a team returning to La Liga. This trophy holds great tradition for them, and they gave it their all. They forced us to play seriously; it was a tough match.

"There are five players working at Valdebebas who weren't here, and you already know who they are. We're taking it step by step, and next week, we’ll be serious."

Madrid face Schalke in the final pre-season match before their 2026-27 LaLiga campaign begins on August 22 away to Espanyol.

Mourinho's first home game in the competition following his return to the role comes against Real Sociedad four days later.
