Militão Returns to the Nursery as Real Madrid Learn the Severity of His Injury
Real Madrid face another setback in defense as Éder Militão suffers a new injury, forcing the club to adjust its plans for a crucial stretch of the season.
Another Blow to Real Madrid’s Defensive Line
The worst fears have been confirmed. Éder Militão, who was forced off during Brazil vs Tunisia in Lille, is once again sidelined. Real Madrid released an official medical report stating that the Brazilian defender has suffered “a muscle injury in the adductor major of his right leg,” ruling him out for approximately two weeks.
The timing couldn’t be worse. Los Blancos, who lead LaLiga by three points over Barcelona, now approach their trip to the Martínez Valero to face Elche without Militão and with uncertainty surrounding the rest of their center-backs.
Uncertainty Around Huijsen and Rüdiger
Real Madrid remain unsure about the availability of Dean Huijsen, a regular starter under Xabi Alonso, after the young defender withdrew from Spain vs Turkey due to muscle discomfort.
Meanwhile, Antonio Rüdiger is still recovering from a rectus femoris injury in his left leg. The German has not played since the second league matchday and, although he is nearing the end of his recovery, it would be a major surprise to see him return directly to the starting XI.
This leaves Alonso with a genuine selection dilemma at the back.

Asensio and Alaba: The Only Healthy Center-Backs
With Militão out and the injury list growing, Real Madrid are left with just Raúl Asensio and David Alaba as their only fully fit central defenders for the clash against Elche, one of the surprise teams of the season: 15 points from 12 matches, just three shy of European spots, and still unbeaten at home.
The shortage of options significantly reduces Madrid’s tactical flexibility at a moment when the calendar is becoming increasingly demanding.
Key Matches Militão Will Miss
The estimated two-week absence means Militão will also miss Real Madrid’s next European and league fixtures:
- The trip to face Olympiacos under José Luis Mendilibar on Wednesday the 26th.
- The visit to Girona four days later.
Another setback for the defender — and another headache for Xabi Alonso as he works to maintain Real Madrid’s lead at the top.
