Marcus Rashford Doesn’t Hold Back: Blames Manchester United for His Struggles
Marcus Rashford has spoken candidly about the inconsistency that has defined parts of his career — and he didn’t shy away from pointing a finger at his former club, Manchester United. The English forward, now thriving under Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona, admitted that the lack of stability at Old Trafford took a toll on his performance over the years.
“I’ve been in an inconsistent environment for too long”
In an interview with ITV, Rashford was asked about Thomas Tuchel’s comments that labeled consistency as the main obstacle in his career. The 27-year-old not only agreed but also delivered a sharp message about his past at United.
“Consistency is absolutely key,” he said. “I feel like I’ve been in an inconsistent environment for a long time, which makes it even harder to be consistent.”
The English striker, who’s now experiencing a new chapter in Spain, added: “I completely agree with what Tuchel said. Consistency is what I need to bring to my game — that’s what I’m chasing. I want to perform at my best, not just sometimes, but every single time I step on the pitch.”
A career defined by instability
Rashford, who made his debut in 2016 under Louis van Gaal, endured a turbulent spell at Old Trafford. In less than a decade, he played under six permanent managers — Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjær, Rangnick, Ten Hag, and Amorim — plus interim spells from Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The forward admitted that the constant turnover affected him more than people realize. “To be consistent at anything — not just sport — you need consistency in your environment and in your training,” he explained. “There have been so many changes throughout my career, but now I’m looking forward. I want to fix that and perform more regularly.”
His best form came under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, where he scored 55 goals and registered 36 assists in 135 games, becoming a key part of the team’s attack. However, after the Norwegian’s departure, his performances dipped amid chaos and constant rebuilding at the club.

Reborn in Barcelona
Since moving to Barcelona, Rashford has rediscovered his spark. Under Hansi Flick, he’s fit perfectly into the LaLiga champions’ attacking system, showcasing the pace, confidence, and decisiveness that once made him one of England’s brightest young stars.
The Catalan club holds an option to buy him permanently at the end of his loan spell, and reports suggest both parties are keen to extend the partnership.
After years of highs and lows, Rashford seems to have found what he was missing at Manchester: an environment built on stability, belief, and purpose. In Barcelona, he’s not just playing better — he’s finally playing free.
