Marc-André ter Stegen Returns to the Pitch and Sparks Hope for an Early Comeback at Barcelona
Good news for Barça fans! Marc-André ter Stegen returned to the pitch after three months out and shared his first images training with the ball again.
The Most Anticipated Return
Marc-André ter Stegen is smiling again. The German goalkeeper of FC Barcelona shared a video on social media showing him training on the pitch for the first time since undergoing back surgery. In the footage, the keeper can be seen controlling and passing the ball with his feet, proving that his recovery is progressing as planned.
“It feels good to get more training sessions on the pitch again,” he wrote alongside the clip, where he is not yet diving or making saves. His return to on-field training marks a major step forward in the final stage of his rehabilitation.
A Recovery on Schedule
Ter Stegen underwent surgery in July under the supervision of Dr. Amélie Leglise in Bordeaux, after months of recurring back pain forced him to stop. As he had predicted himself, his recovery period lasted around three months before returning to work on the field.
Despite the progress, Barça’s medical staff estimate that his full medical clearance won’t come until December or early January, in line with LaLiga’s timeline for long-term injuries.
An Uncertain Future at Barça?
While he continues his recovery, speculation in Germany suggests a potential loan move during the January transfer window. According to Sky Germany, Ter Stegen is open to a temporary exit to regain match fitness ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Several Premier League clubs have reportedly shown interest, but those close to the player remain calm. For now, his focus is clear: to return and defend Barcelona’s goal at 100 percent.
