Luka Modric Says Goodbye To Real Madrid: “This Club Has Given Me Everything”
After more than a decade of success, Luka Modric has brought his brilliant career at Real Madrid to an end. The Croatian midfielder played his final match in the club’s shirt during the Club World Cup semifinals, saying farewell as the most decorated player in the club’s history with 28 trophies, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy.
“It has been an unforgettable, glorious, and successful chapter,” Modric told the club’s official media. "Real Madrid has given me everything in football, and I’ll be forever grateful. I will always be a Madridista."
At 39 years old, the midfielder departs not only as a club legend but also as a fan favorite. Modric emphasized that the affection from supporters is one of the most meaningful parts of his time at the Bernabéu. "You can’t fool the fans. The love they’ve shown me is something no one can take away. I never imagined it and it fills me with pride," he said.
Florentino Pérez, a special bond
In his farewell, Modric had heartfelt words for Florentino Pérez, the club president, whom he thanked for believing in him since his arrival in 2012. "He treated me differently, he had a special affection for me. I saw it during my farewell at the Bernabéu, when he cried. That truly moved me."

The Croatian international, who also starred for his national team, takes with him unforgettable memories. Among them, he highlighted the achievement of La Décima Champions League title. "That’s when it all began. That match defined what Real Madrid is: never giving up and fighting until the end."
With his departure, Modric leaves not just a gap on the pitch but also a shining example of professionalism, humility, and love for the club. Now he starts a new chapter, but his legacy at Real Madrid will last forever.
