The win over Real Sociedad has created a positive atmosphere around Madrid, but José Mourinho had already made it clear that he intends to distribute playing time across his squad.

“It is not possible to think that one player is going to play 50 games and another 10,” the Portuguese coach said while discussing his full-back options.

That approach could result in several changes against Malaga.

What changes could Mourinho make against Malaga?

Malaga will return to the Santiago Bernabéu eight years after its previous visit.

That match was played in November 2017 and ended in a 3-2 defeat. José Miguel González del Campo ‘Míchel’ was coaching the Andalusian side at the time, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored the decisive goal.

Malaga has never beaten Real Madrid away from home in 16 attempts, recording 13 defeats and three draws while scoring 16 goals and conceding 44.

The club is also looking for its first victory since returning to LaLiga EA Sports, having opened the campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid before drawing 1-1 at home against Deportivo de La Coruña.

Malaga has no intention of playing for a draw

Juan Francisco Funes has the same players available as he did against Deportivo and intends to maintain an attacking approach at the Bernabéu.

The Malaga coach made his mentality clear ahead of the game, saying that if his team goes there looking for a draw, it is possible they could “concede eight.”

The matchup will also carry special significance for several players.
